Violence Against Cyclists

 Updated February 05, 2016

A database of attacks against cyclists for use by both bicyclists and motorcyclists.

It allows victims to document their experiences while providing quick searches to see if other similar events occurred in the same area.

The resulting aggregation of information may be useful to law enforcement investigators.

Add relevant tips and YouTube links using the Add to Database Form [CLOSED TO COMMENT]. No signup or real name required, just prove you are human.

If you have found this website while searching for one of the names below please bear with me.

There is a standing $1,000.00 Reward or FREE Plećbo t-shirt or water bottle for information you may have.

Other people should jump to the details of the attack on me.

If you are not on the following list be aware that none of these names are suspects, nor are they necessarily at all related to the attack on me.

These are merely user names I found on YouTube of apparently articulate and engaged individuals who have some relationship to Monroe-Woodbury High School, or Woodbury, NY or Central Valley, NY.

Therefore I have placed the names here in quadruplicate so that Google searches (which each person may perform at some point in the future) may bring somebody here with a willingness to help me...even minimally.

There is a standing $1,000.00 Reward for the correct information.

The bar for providing that level of information is very high so a secondary offer of a FREE Plećbo t-shirt or water bottle (your choice) for almost any relevant information provided.

Below are names of people who might like to help and might qualify for the $1,000.00 Reward or FREE Plećbo t-shirt or water bottle (your choice) for almost any relevant information provided.

The theory is that eventually somebody will wind up here who has some connection to any one of the these names or who knows a tidbit of information to add to better Internet search criteria. (See more below the table)

Let me repeat, it may be very unlikely that any of the above individuals has the correct information to qualify for the $1,000.00 Reward, but they are more than likely to qualify for a FREE Plećbo t-shirt or water bottle for almost any relevant information provided.

Below is the story from the American Road Cycling home page that got it all started.

When I reported the attack, the Town of Woodbury took proactive steps to stop me from finding out who attacked me, so I am now counting on the Internet community to help out.

$1,000 Reward for Information: motorcyclist attacks bicyclist

Don't fail me now Google. This could save lives.

On October 1, 2012 app. 6:15 pm Bob Fugett was attacked by two motorcyclists on Smith Clove Road in the Town of Woodbury, NY.

He was just finishing up a ride on a long climb when a motorcyclist came up stealthily behind him, gunned their engine, and forcefully body checked Bob in an attempt to knock him off the road and over a cliff.

It was such a violent attack that the last time Bob felt such force his collar bone was broken. This time he survived with less injury while staying on his bicycle.

His left arm, upper back, and mid-back on his right side remained sore for several days with some possible nerve damage impeding typing with his left hand that is still not fully recovered.

There were cars in the area and he had just worried about vehicles squeezing the road trying to pass two directions at the same time, so Bob moved as far to the side of the road as he could.

When he heard the overly loud engine behind him, Bob cringed but then breathed a sigh, "Good. A motorcycle. Plenty of  room."

Immediately he felt the violence of the attack, looked down to see the motorcycle handlebar and throttle over his legs, observed the cliff and thought, "What scenario could possibly make this end without me dead?"

If not for being an experienced highly competitive cyclist accustomed to being jostled in a tight group of other equally combative riders often at 40 miles an hour, this writing would be a eulogy along with the reward offer.

That is to say a novice cyclist would have been over the cliff.

Bob believes the second motorcyclist (just slightly behind) may have been making a video of the event, so there is high probability somebody is carrying around a $1000 video on their phone.

10/11/12: The story of the attack above has been reprinted in the October issue of the Woodbury Gazette.

10/24/12: Planned to search stores in Woodbury Commons to find a similar jacket to the one observed on the motorcyclist who attacked me. Mary diverted me saying, "If they were local, it is more likely they shop at Walmart, I don't think many locals shop at Woodbury Commons."

Mary hit the nail on the head, but I did not find an exact match.

Right after the attack I was at a loss to describe the jacket I saw on my assailant, because I really had never noticed such a jacket before. For a couple of years in the mid-1970's I worked in the fashion industry, and that was enough fashion for a lifetime, so I just stopped looking.

Below is something I found at Walmart which shows the very large hood similar to the image that was burned into my mind when the motorcyclist attacked:

While trying to put together the photo above I realized the driver of the motorcycle's jacket was probably zippered and open, because that is the only way I could match the large stable triangular shape of the hood...which is very important in my memory.

However, the design of the pattern of the jacket itself was really closer to the photo below (also taken at Walmart the same day) plus my assailant's was a warmer almost pale brown color:

Anybody with a photo of a jacket combining the criteria above
please let me know using the Add to Database Form [CLOSED TO COMMENT].

Before I was attacked I had never noticed such a large triangular hood on a jacket, and the old timey design of the body pattern combined with that fact to leave me speechless at the police station immediately after my attack and when talking to high school students at the Town Board Meeting a few days later.

I really wish there would be an opportunity to update all those people, but Officials from the Town of Woodbury really do not want to hear about it anymore, in fact they are so strong on this point I am pretty sure they know more than they are letting on and are trying to sweep the incident under the rug.

Therefore I cannot present an appropriate update of my search progress, so posting these images on this website and adding them to the materials I hand out to anybody who will listen will have to suffice.

Probably better than wasting time with Officials anyway.

Maybe part of what they are trying to sweep under the rug is the existence of an illegal off-road motorcycle course just a few hundred yards from where I was attacked.

Here is a Google satellite view:

There is also some indication that houses in the contiguous developments may have been built on West Point property, but a search  of County Records will have to be conducted to confirm that fact.

In the meantime compare the maps below:

I really hate it when I find I have breached another caisson of annelids.

Do it far too often.

10/25/12: Drove over to Maroney's to get a photo of the tail end of a motorcycle similar to the ones that attacked me. The motorcycle shown below was found in a room full of otherwise strictly off-road bikes.

I spoke with an extremely knowledgeable sales person who confirmed that although this one is not really an off-road bike, it could very well be ridden on the track I showed him from the Google map (see above).

He also started it up for me and it was much throatier than I would have thought so definitely the sound of my assailant's engine.

I even stood beside it and confirmed that such a handlebar throttle could have been exactly in the location on my lap as I recall.

Everything I confirmed still points to the likelihood of the person who attacked living close to where my attack took place.

Time to summarize and put together a little booklet to present to Homeowner Associations.

10/26/12: Grabbed the still frame below from a YouTube video taken in Woodbury Commons parking lot.

Grunge the bike up a little and it could be something an idiot would take off-road.

Maybe the thing in my lap that I thought was a throttle was actually a mirror.
